Oncology Massage

Foundation Program, 24 CE hours

Nationally recognized 3-day workshop introduces touch practitioners, massage therapists and healthcare professionals to the bodywork considerations presented by an oncology clientele.

Workshop time, which is shared between clinical considerations review and bodywork, prepares practitioners with the knowledge to provide clinically safe and therapeutic touch. Day 3 includes an oncology client massage and/or bodywork session.

Licensed massage therapists who complete this course qualify to register as Preferred Practitioners with the Society for Oncology Massage.

This 3-day program will help you

•  Understand the primary considerations in providing bodywork for people in or with a history of cancer treatment.

•  Evaluate bodywork site, positioning and pressure modifications that pertain to medical devices, surgical procedures and drug treatment related side effects.

• Review current clinical research about massage in the oncology setting.

• Identify acupressure points useful in addressing some common cancer treatment related side effects.

• Touch techniques and pressure requirements to suit a client’s needs
